Here are some worthwhile places to visit:
Phil Wakefield’s Screenscribe site. As he says “ScreenScribe.tv is a guide to HDTV technology and content in New Zealand and beyond: displays, channels, DVRs, Blu-ray releases, home theatre gear and gadgets. Phil has reported on and reviewed the film, TV and home video business since 1984 — two years after he bought his first video recorder for $2000!” (And probably sold it for twice that two weeks later.)
I do the occasional bit of preview writing for Phil, gratis, although he often treats me to lunch. It may be dinner next time after reading this attack on my assessment of one programme though.
Alias Poor Yorick, written by Jeffrey McG Browett of Melbourne, addresses Life’s Big Questions: If you were a pirate, how would you avoid laughing when saying ‘poop deck’? and If a joke falls flat in the forest & there’s no-one there to hear it, is there still an embarrassing silence? He claims to write stuff and nonsense but jokes have a habit of slipping past his otherwise stringent quality control system.
When he’s not writing, Jeff spends rather too much time here.
